This collection includes selected works from an exploration of techniques acquired from Chinese calligraphy studies, balanced with free flowing expression. These paintings reflect the reality of an immigrant upbringing—strong cultural roots coexisting and evolving with an ever changing environment.
Each painting started with brushstrokes that mimic the movements and patterns of Chinese calligraphy, with the intention of not creating words and focusing on balance instead. Just like my hyphenated identity, these paintings reassert my connection to my culture beyond academic knowledge.
